Appfigures review (2026): which plan an indie iOS developer actually needs

Five paid plans from $9.99 to $1,399.99 a month. Most indie apps need one of the bottom three — here's how to tell which.

The short answer

Appfigures combines sales and subscription reporting, review management, keyword rank tracking and competitor estimates for App Store and Google Play. For a single indie iOS app, Monitor ($44.99/month, 100 tracked keywords) covers ongoing ASO; Optimize ($149.99) is worth it during a launch or relisting sprint for keyword discovery. Treat its download and revenue estimates as directional, and use App Store Connect as your source of truth.

01The verdict

Appfigures is the most indie-friendly of the established app intelligence platforms: self-serve, published prices, and a genuinely useful free tier for consolidating reports. Its weakness is the one every tool in this category shares — the numbers about apps that aren't yours are estimates from a model, not data.

Good fit

  • One to five apps, and you want sales, subscriptions and reviews in one dashboard
  • You're doing ASO yourself and need daily rank tracking for your own keywords
  • You're planning a launch or relisting and want two weeks of keyword discovery on the trial

Poor fit

  • You need precise competitor revenue — no outside tool has that
  • You want someone to decide what to change; Appfigures shows data, not decisions
  • You only need your own impressions and conversion — App Store Connect is free

With monthly billing, a research-sprint pattern works: one or two months on Optimize, then back to Monitor.

03How many keywords do you really need to track?

Plan limits are in tracked keywords, so it helps to know your number before choosing. On iOS your keyword field holds 100 bytes per locale, which in English usually fits 12–16 comma-separated terms. Add the words in your title and subtitle, and a handful of phrases you're trying to break into, and one locale typically needs 20–30 tracked keywords.

Rule of thumb: tracked keywords by scope

Our working estimate, not an Appfigures recommendation. Tracking keywords you'll never target just burns the allowance.

04Where Appfigures is strong in 2026

  • One place for the money. Downloads, revenue, subscriptions, ad spend and payouts across stores, which App Store Connect alone won't combine.
  • Keyword popularity is back. In October 2025 Appfigures announced accurate keyword popularity scores had returned — useful for choosing between two terms.
  • App Intelligence, rebuilt. A new version launched in November 2025, and since April 2026 estimates combine iPhone and iPad, with iPad data back to May 2022.
  • AI access to your data. A CLI with a local MCP server arrived in August 2026, and on September 29, 2026 a remote MCP server and agent SDK — so tools like Claude can query your Appfigures data directly.
  • An API for your own pipelines. Rate-limited at 1,000 requests a day per account, with higher limits available in account settings. Check which plans include API access before building on it.

05The limits to know before paying

  • Estimates are models. Competitor downloads and revenue are inferred, not reported. Use them to compare relative size and direction, never as a number to put in a pitch deck.
  • Your own numbers live in App Store Connect. Impressions, product page views and conversion come from Apple — Appfigures' figures for your app can differ in definition and timing. Our impressions entry explains Apple's definitions.
  • It won't tell you what to change. Rank charts show that something moved, not which word to swap. That's analysis — the part covered in ASO tools vs an actual audit.
  • Per-app pricing after five. Paid plans include 5 connected apps, then $1.99 per extra app.
  • Reviewers' complaints are specific, not systemic. Public reviews mention wanting better keyword tracking and more ad networks for ad-monetised apps.

Frequently asked questions

Does Appfigures have a free plan?

Yes. The Starter plan is free, and the trial unlocks the Optimize plan's features without a credit card; when it ends you move to the free plan automatically.

Are Appfigures' revenue estimates accurate?

They're modelled estimates for apps you don't own, useful for direction and relative size. For your own app, connect your accounts and use the reported numbers instead.

Is the Monitor plan enough for ASO?

For one app in a few locales, usually yes: 100 keywords with daily updates. Upgrade temporarily when you need keyword discovery or competitor keywords.

Can I use Appfigures with ChatGPT or Claude?

Since September 29, 2026 Appfigures offers a remote MCP server, plus an earlier CLI with a local MCP server, so AI assistants that support MCP can query your data.

Is Appfigures better than App Store Connect Analytics?

They do different jobs. App Store Connect is the source of truth for your own impressions and conversion (and added 100+ in-app purchase metrics in March 2026). Appfigures adds keywords, competitors and multi-store reporting.
