Superwall vs Adapty: paywall revenue vs all revenue, web views vs native, and which fits an indie app

Both charge 1%. The difference is what they charge it on — and how each one draws your paywall.

Checked against Superwall's and Adapty's pricing pages, docs, comparison page and GitHub repositories, on Oct 8, 2026.

The short answer

Both charge 1% past a free threshold, but on different revenue: Superwall bills only revenue that comes through its paywalls, free up to $10k a month on its Indie plan; Adapty bills all tracked revenue once you pass $5k a month. Superwall's fee is never higher. Choose Superwall for paywall experimentation depth, Adapty for natively rendered paywalls and built-in cohort analytics with LTV predictions.

01What each 1% is charged on

Pricing basics, from each vendor's pricing page (checked Oct 8, 2026)

Paid plansStartup $49/mo + 1%; Scale $199/mo + 1%One plan (Pro); Enterprise is custom
Add-onsFeatures unlocked by planRefund Saver 0.2% of revenue; Ads Manager 3.5% of ad spend; others
Superwall's page also states “No monthly tracked-revenue threshold” for the paywall product, which conflicts with the Indie card's “Up to $10k MAR”. Adapty's own comparison page describes Superwall as “Free up to $10K MTR”. Confirm with Superwall before relying on the threshold.

The base is what matters. Superwall says “Subscriptions purchased outside Superwall are free” and “Imported & pre-integration users are never billed.” Adapty counts “All revenue tracked by Adapty during a billing month”. So an app with an existing subscriber base, or revenue from a web checkout Superwall doesn't render, pays Adapty on all of it and Superwall on none of it.

The finding, in one line
According to ASOitis's math on both published pricing pages (checked October 8, 2026), Adapty's fee is never lower than Superwall's free Indie plan: both charge 1%, but Adapty starts at $5,000 of total revenue while Superwall starts at $10,000 of paywall revenue only.

02The bill at real revenue levels

Monthly fee if every dollar comes through the paywall — the most expensive case for Superwall
Monthly revenueSuperwall IndieAdapty Pro
$3,000$0$0
$7,500$0$75
$10,000$0$100
$15,000$150$150
$50,000$500$500
Superwall Indie read as free up to $10k, then 1% of all paywall revenue. Adapty's 1% applies once rolling 30-day revenue passes $5,000. Store commissions and taxes are ignored; Adapty measures before them.

Now take an app making $20,000 a month where half comes from subscribers who signed up before the switch. Adapty bills 1% of $20,000 — $200. Superwall bills only the $10,000 that comes through its paywalls, which on Indie is $0 or about $100 depending on how the threshold is applied. The gap grows with every dollar Superwall doesn't render.

Where Superwall costs more is its paid tiers: Startup and Scale add $49 and $199 a month on top of the same 1%, for features like surveys, paywall localization and collaborators. Our Superwall review works through those plans.

03Rendering: web views vs native

This is the biggest product difference. Superwall renders paywalls from a single web-standards runtime, preloaded and cached on the device, which is why its pricing page says “New paywall features ship without an app store release.” Adapty's docs say its SDK “renders flows natively without web views”, and its builder covers onboarding flows as well as paywalls.

Superwall's web runtime

  • New paywall features work on old app versions
  • Same paywall across iOS, Android, Flutter and React Native
  • A first launch with no connection can't show a paywall that was never fetched
  • Adds about 7.7 MB to an iOS app, per Superwall

Adapty's native flows

  • Native rendering, with a built-in fallback that loads flows locally
  • Figma import and AI-agent building in the flow builder
  • Flows require Adapty SDK v4, which needs Xcode 26
  • A developer reported about 8 MB added; Adapty says it's smaller without AdaptyUI

04Experiments and analytics

  • Superwall organises tests as campaigns: placements (moments in your app), audiences, and paywalls, including holdouts with no paywall at all. Cal AI ran 123 experiments across 46 trigger points on it, per Superwall's case study — see our Cal AI teardown.
  • Adapty runs regular A/B tests on a single placement and cross-placement tests for new users. Its docs say it uses “a 2-week revenue per user” as a proxy metric and calculates each variant's probability of being best.
  • Analytics. Adapty offers cohort analysis with predicted LTV and early winner predictions. Superwall includes charts and SQL access to your subscription data on every plan.
  • Each vendor's view of the other. Adapty's own comparison page concedes that “Superwall leads on paywall testing depth” and positions Adapty as covering both paywalls and subscription infrastructure.

05Switching, and running them alongside others

  • Superwall to Adapty. Adapty publishes a migration guide that maps Superwall's concepts — a campaign becomes a placement plus an audience — and says most migrations take “about two hours”. Its comparison page says a day and its pricing FAQ says a few days to a week, so budget for the longer end.
  • Either alongside RevenueCat. Superwall recommends putting RevenueCat in observer mode; Adapty supports observer mode with your own purchase code. Neither forces you to move existing purchases on day one.
  • Web purchases. Superwall offers Stripe web checkout and an App2Web flow for the US storefront; Adapty supports web paywalls through Stripe or Paddle. App Review rules on linking out apply to both — see Guideline 3.1.1.

Frequently asked questions

Is Superwall cheaper than Adapty?

On its Indie plan, Superwall's fee is never higher: it's free up to $10,000 a month of paywall revenue and only counts revenue through its paywalls, while Adapty charges 1% of all tracked revenue past $5,000. Superwall's paid Startup and Scale plans add $49 or $199 a month.

Does Adapty use web views for paywalls?

No. Adapty's docs say its SDK renders flows natively without web views. Superwall renders paywalls from a web-standards runtime cached on the device.

Can I migrate from Superwall to Adapty?

Yes. Adapty publishes a Superwall migration guide that maps campaigns to placements and audiences. Its docs say about two hours; its other pages say a day to a week, so plan for more than two hours.

Do I need RevenueCat with Superwall or Adapty?

No. Both can handle purchases and entitlements themselves, and both can also run alongside RevenueCat or your own purchase code in observer mode.

Which one is better for A/B testing paywalls?

Superwall is built around paywall experimentation, and Adapty's own comparison page says Superwall leads on testing depth. Adapty's tests use a Bayesian method with two-week revenue per user as the proxy metric, and it adds predicted LTV for picking winners.
