# RevenueCat vs Adapty: the free-tier gap, the builders, and who should pick which

> Both bill 1% of tracked revenue past a free threshold: RevenueCat from $2,500 a month, Adapty from $5,000 since its February 2026 pricing change. Between those numbers Adapty saves up to about $50 a month; above $5,000 the base fee is the same. Decide on product: RevenueCat for ecosystem depth and Customer Center, Adapty for no-code Flows covering onboarding and paywalls, and its optional add-ons.

Adapty dropped its $99 minimum in February 2026. Now both bill 1% — the question is what happens below $5k, and what you add on top.

## Key facts

- **RevenueCat free until:** $2,500/mo — Then 1% of tracked revenue
- **Adapty free until:** $5,000/mo — Then 1%, since Feb 16, 2026
- **Max monthly difference:** ≈$50 — Only between $2.5k and $5k
- **Official migration:** RevenueCat → Adapty — CSV-based, documented by Adapty

## What changed in 2026

Until February 16, 2026, Adapty's paid plans started at a $99 monthly minimum, which made RevenueCat's free tier the obvious choice for small apps. Adapty's new pricing removed the minimum: free while you earn under $5,000 a month, then 1% of monthly revenue, with "no tiers, no fixed costs". That moved the comparison from price to product for most indie apps.

Both count revenue the same broad way. Adapty counts "all revenue tracked by Adapty during a billing month: subscriptions, renewals, and one-time purchases", in USD, "before the platforms take their cut" — the same gross basis RevenueCat uses for monthly tracked revenue. Adapty measures on a rolling 30 days.

## The base fee, month by month

**Monthly base fee at each revenue level**

| Monthly revenue | RevenueCat | Adapty | Difference |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| $2,000 | $0 | $0 | — |
| $3,000 | $30 | $0 | Adapty −$30 |
| $4,500 | $45 | $0 | Adapty −$45 |
| $6,000 | $60 | $60 | — |
| $20,000 | $200 | $200 | — |
| $50,000 | $500 | $500 | — |

_Computed from both vendors' published pricing on Sep 30, 2026. Both are charged on gross revenue before Apple's commission._

### Adapty's add-ons change the total

RevenueCat includes every feature in its 1%. Adapty keeps the base fee lean and prices several capabilities separately, each free under $5,000 a month:

**Adapty add-ons as published**

| Add-on | Price above the free threshold |
| --- | --- |
| Refund Saver | 0.2% of monthly revenue |
| Attribution | $0.03 per attributed install |
| Ads Manager | 3.5% of monthly ad spend |
| Adapty Mail | 20% revenue share |
| Adapty Finance | 2.5%, subject to qualification |

_You only pay for add-ons you switch on. For a subscription app, Refund Saver is the most directly relevant; at $20,000 a month it adds $40._

## Builders: Paywalls v2 vs Adapty Flows

Here the products genuinely diverge. RevenueCat's Paywalls v2 is a native, component-based paywall editor with templates, and in 2026 an AI editor and Paywall Rules. Its separate Funnels product builds web-to-app flows that run in the browser before install.

Adapty folded its older paywall and onboarding builders into Flows: one no-code builder that renders natively and covers onboarding screens as well as paywalls, with 50+ templates. If you want to test the whole path from first launch to purchase without shipping code, that's the stronger fit.

**RevenueCat is stronger at**
- Customer Center for self-service cancellations, refunds and restores
- Breadth of SDKs, including Cordova, Unity, Web and Roku
- Web billing options and web-to-app Funnels

**Adapty is stronger at**
- No-code onboarding and paywall flows in one builder
- A/B tests with unlimited variants and predictive LTV
- EU or US data residency on Enterprise

## Analytics and experiments

Both give you subscription analytics you'd otherwise build in a warehouse. RevenueCat's Charts cover 40+ metrics, and its June 2026 release added industry Benchmarks and in-app ad revenue. Adapty leans further into prediction and automation: predictive LTV, an AI feature it calls Autopilot, and a built-in CRM.

> **Check the source of truth.** Whichever you choose, reconcile its revenue numbers with App Store Connect monthly. Apple added 100+ in-app purchase and subscription metrics, plus download-to-paid benchmarks, to App Store Connect in March 2026 — a free cross-check.

## Switching between them

Adapty publishes a migration path from RevenueCat based on exporting your subscriber data as CSV, and both tools support observer mode — where your existing code completes purchases and the tool only records them. That lets you run the new system alongside the old one before switching access checks over.

1. **Wrap your access checks** — Route every "is this user premium?" question through one function in your app, so the backend can change behind it.
2. **Run the new tool in observer mode** — Let it record purchases for a billing cycle and compare its numbers with the old tool and App Store Connect.
3. **Import history, then switch** — Import existing subscribers, flip the wrapper to the new tool, ship, and keep the old SDK in observer mode for one more cycle as a safety net.

## Which to pick, by scenario

**Scenario → recommendation**

| Your situation | Pick | Why |
| --- | --- | --- |

| Earning $2.5k–$5k a month and price-sensitive | Adapty | Free until $5k; saves up to about $50 a month |
| Want to test onboarding and paywall without app updates | Adapty | Flows cover both in one no-code builder |
| Want self-service subscription management in-app | RevenueCat | Customer Center, no build needed |
| Selling on the web as well as in-app | RevenueCat | Web Billing, Paddle and web-to-app Funnels |

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Adapty cheaper than RevenueCat?

Only between $2,500 and $5,000 of monthly revenue, where Adapty is still free and RevenueCat charges 1%. Above $5,000 both charge 1% of revenue; Adapty's optional add-ons can make it more expensive if you use them.

### Did Adapty used to have a minimum fee?

Yes. Adapty says it used to cost a $99 monthly minimum; the February 16, 2026 pricing change made it free under $5,000 a month.

### Can I migrate from RevenueCat to Adapty?

Yes. Adapty documents a migration from RevenueCat using a CSV export of your subscribers, and supports observer mode so you can run both during the switch.

### Does Adapty process payments?

No. Apple, Google, Stripe or Paddle process payments; Adapty validates, tracks and manages access, the same role RevenueCat plays for store purchases.

### Which supports more platforms?

Both cover iOS, Android, React Native, Flutter, Unity, Kotlin Multiplatform and Capacitor. RevenueCat also lists Expo, Cordova, Web and Roku.
