# App Store screenshot sizes 2026: the required sizes, every device class, and iPhone Duo

> In October 2026, Apple requires at least one iPhone screenshot for the Dynamic Island medium display — 1179 × 2556 or 1206 × 2622 pixels — and, if your app runs on iPad, one for the 13-inch iPad at 2064 × 2752 or 2048 × 2732. You can upload up to 10 per size as JPEG or PNG without transparency. From April 2027, apps built with the iOS 27.1 SDK also need iPhone Duo screenshots.

Screenshot sizes change every time Apple ships a new iPhone, and most cheat sheets lag a generation behind. As of October 2026 the size Apple requires for iPhone isn't the biggest one, a foldable iPhone has two new display sizes, and App Review now has a numeric rule for how many screenshots must show your app. Here's the current list, straight from Apple's specification page.

## The sizes Apple requires

**Required App Store screenshots (Apple's specification page, checked Oct 11, 2026)**

| Device | Display class | Portrait sizes (pixels) | Required |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| iPhone | Dynamic Island (medium display) | 1179 × 2556 or 1206 × 2622 | Yes — at least one |
| iPad | 13-inch | 2064 × 2752 or 2048 × 2732 | Yes, if your app runs on iPad |

*Landscape versions are the same sizes rotated. Source: [Apple's screenshot specifications](https://developer.apple.com/help/app-store-connect/reference/app-information/screenshot-specifications).*

Apple's wording: “To submit your app, you must provide screenshots for the following required display sizes: iPhone: At least one screenshot for iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display). iPad (if your app supports iPadOS): At least one screenshot for iPad 13-inch display.” The medium Dynamic Island class covers iPhone 14 Pro through iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 17.

> According to ASOitis's reading of Apple's screenshot specifications on October 11, 2026, the only iPhone size Apple requires is now the Dynamic Island medium display — 1179 × 2556 or 1206 × 2622 pixels — not the 6.9-inch size most cheat sheets still list, and from April 2027 apps built with the iOS 27.1 SDK must add screenshots for both of iPhone Duo's displays.

## Every iPhone and iPad size

**iPhone screenshot sizes by display class (portrait)**

| Display class | Example devices | Sizes (pixels) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| iPhone Duo — outer display | iPhone Duo (from Oct 23, 2026) | 1398 × 2034 |
| iPhone Duo — inner display | iPhone Duo | 2007 × 2853 |
| Dynamic Island (large) | iPhone Air, 18 Pro Max, 17 Pro Max, 16 Plus, 14 Pro Max | 1260 × 2736, 1290 × 2796, 1320 × 2868 |
| Face ID (large) | iPhone 14 Plus, 13 Pro Max, 11, XR | 1284 × 2778, 1242 × 2688 |
| Dynamic Island (medium) | iPhone 18 Pro, 17 Pro, 17, 16, 15, 14 Pro | 1179 × 2556, 1206 × 2622 |
| Face ID (medium) | iPhone 17e, 16e, 14, 13, 12, X | 1170 × 2532, 1125 × 2436, 1080 × 2340 |
| Home Button (large) | iPhone 8 Plus, 7 Plus | 1242 × 2208 |
| Home Button (medium) | iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd gen), 8 | 750 × 1334 |

*Older 4-inch and 3.5-inch classes are still listed on Apple's page. Inch sizes aren't printed there; Apple names classes by display type.*

**iPad screenshot sizes by display class (portrait)**

| Display class | Example devices | Sizes (pixels) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 13-inch (required) | iPad Pro (M5, M4), iPad Air (M4, M3, M2) | 2064 × 2752, 2048 × 2732 |
| 12.9-inch | iPad Pro (2nd gen) | 2048 × 2732 |
| 11-inch | iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad (A16), iPad mini (A17 Pro) | 1488 × 2266, 1668 × 2420, 1668 × 2388, 1640 × 2360 |
| 10.5-inch | iPad (7th–9th gen), iPad Air (3rd gen) | 1668 × 2224 |

If your app looks the same everywhere, Apple says “you only need to provide screenshots for the highest required resolution. App Store Connect automatically scales them down for smaller device sizes.” The page's fallback notes are inconsistent — the required medium size isn't the largest class — so if you care how you look on a Pro Max, upload the large Dynamic Island size too rather than trusting scaling.

## iPhone Duo: two displays, required from April 2027

Apple's specification page now lists iPhone Duo first, with an outer display at 1398 × 2034 and an inner display at 2007 × 2853 pixels (and both rotated), and says: “Starting in April 2027, screenshots will be required for any app using the iOS 27.1 SDK or later.” Apple's [iPhone Duo announcement](https://developer.apple.com/news/?id=kkphp5qo) adds that the device is available from October 23, 2026, that you should recompile with Xcode 27.1, and that a new preview tool in App Store Connect shows how your page looks on it.

The inner display is close to a square, so screenshots designed for a tall phone won't simply stretch. Plan a separate layout — and since App Review counts screenshots per device, make sure most of them show the app actually running on Duo.

## Format rules and the “app in use” rule

- **Count:** at least one and up to 10 screenshots per device size.
- **Format:** .jpeg, .jpg or .png. Apple: “Images can't include alpha channels or transparencies.”
- **Content:** Guideline 2.3.3 says screenshots “should show the app in use, and not merely the title art, login page, or splash screen.”
- **More than half, per device:** Apple's new [App Review guidance](https://developer.apple.com/help/app-review/guideline-reference/2-3-3-screenshots) says it “will approve only those submissions where more than half of screenshots show the app in use.” With three screenshots per device, two must show the app; with four, three.
- **One can be enough:** the same guidance says one screenshot for a device “is sufficient as long as it shows your app in use”, and one in-app image may span several screenshots.

Captions, frames and backgrounds are fine. What fails is a set that's mostly posters. Our [Guideline 2.3 page](https://asoitis.com/app-review/guideline-2-3-accurate-metadata) covers the rest of the metadata rules.

## App preview specs

**App preview requirements (Apple, checked Oct 11, 2026)**

## New in 2026: product page headers and search result assets

**Apple's new creative asset sizes (checked Oct 11, 2026)**

| Placement | Image size | Video |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Product page header | 3840 × 1646 (21:9), or 5244 × 2950 PNG (16:9) | 21:9, 5–30 s, 30 or 60 fps |
| Search results | 1920 × 1280 to 3840 × 2560 (3:2), or 5244 × 2950 PNG (16:9) | 3:2, 5–30 s; muted in search results |
| In-App Event card | 1920 × 1080 to 3840 × 2160 (16:9) | 15–30 s |

*Source: Apple's [creative assets specifications](https://developer.apple.com/help/app-store-connect/reference/app-information/creative-assets-specifications). Apple says these “complement your existing app previews and screenshots”.*

These go beyond in-app visuals, and Apple lets you use them on [custom product pages](https://asoitis.com/glossary/custom-product-pages) and test them with [product page optimization](https://asoitis.com/glossary/product-page-optimization). Search result videos are muted and can't be unmuted, so design them to work without sound.

## A practical upload plan

1. Design at 1320 × 2868 (large Dynamic Island) and export 1206 × 2622 for the required medium class.
2. Add 2064 × 2752 iPad screenshots if your app runs on iPad — and make sure they show the iPad layout, not a stretched phone.
3. Plan iPhone Duo outer and inner layouts before you move to the iOS 27.1 SDK.
4. Keep more than half of each device's screenshots showing the real app; put the headline above the screen, not instead of it.
5. Export JPEG or PNG with no transparency, and recheck Apple's page before each release.

## Frequently asked questions

### What screenshot size is required for the App Store in 2026?

At least one iPhone screenshot for the Dynamic Island medium display — 1179 × 2556 or 1206 × 2622 pixels — and, if your app supports iPad, at least one for the 13-inch iPad at 2064 × 2752 or 2048 × 2732.

### Is the 6.9-inch screenshot size still required?

Not as of October 2026. Apple's specification page names the Dynamic Island medium display as the required iPhone size. The large Dynamic Island sizes, up to 1320 × 2868, are accepted but optional.

### Do I need iPhone Duo screenshots?

Not yet. Apple's specification page says that starting in April 2027, screenshots will be required for any app using the iOS 27.1 SDK or later. The outer display is 1398 × 2034 pixels and the inner display 2007 × 2853.

### How many App Store screenshots can I upload?

Between one and 10 per device size. App Review approves a set only if more than half of each device's screenshots show the app in use.

### Can App Store screenshots have transparent backgrounds?

No. Apple says images can't include alpha channels or transparencies. Export flat JPEG or PNG files.
